The Overall Winning Artists Category consists of the 10 Best Entries received from the 3 media categories of the Painting & Other Category, Photography & Digital Category and the 3 Dimensional Art categories.
The winning artists will now be featured on the Light Space & Time website for the month of October 2019 and thereafter, the artworks and links to the artist’s websites will remain online in the Light Space & Time Archives.
The overall winning artists’ category of the 3rd Annual “Patterns” Art Exhibition will receive extensive worldwide publicity and promotion. In addition, the overall winning artists will also receive extensive worldwide publicity in the form of email marketing, 550+ press release announcements, event announcement posts and social media marketing.

1st Place - Maureen Ravnik - “Chevrolet”
Maureen Ravnik was born and raised in Minnesota. A brief visit to Colorado sold her on attending college there to pursue a career in sales & marketing. She stayed and never looked back. Working and traveling a lot in that discipline opened her eyes to the wonders of the American west and reawakened childhood tendencies to creatively document her discoveries. She began making images of the American west in hopes of preserving the history, the culture, and the dreams that shaped the west.
Today, Maureen’s time is spent outdoors taking in and capturing the scenery, wildlife, and exploring other methods for interpreting and sharing what she sees and experiences along the way. She is deeply inspired by the work of Ansel Adams and Art Wolfe. Maureen has accomplished many things with her photography including images placed in the Audubon International Top 250, local, national and international juried photography exhibitions, winning placements in monthly club competitions, state park calendars, images selected for use by the City of Littleton, and many images selected as editor picks on National Geographic and for publication. Her work has been the subject of several newspapers. She has co-authored 2 books that document the history, beauty and environment of the second largest natural area in the country. She was listed by LightSpaceTime.art as one of the top ten photographers to watch for in 2018. She was also selected for a solo exhibition by LightSpaceTime.art for April, 2019. Maureen has also served as a juror for the Tri-Lakes Center for the Arts in Colorado.
Maureen’s goal is to continually look for new ways to grow and express what she feels. That is what inspires her to never reject possibilities in subject matter.

2nd Place - John Pingree - “Curves_R”
While pursuing a career in Engineering, John found himself traveling widely. It was during these trips (to locations as varied as the Canadian Arctic and South Korea) that he first developed an interest in photography, honing his skills in the medium over many years.
John holds certificates in Applied Photography and Art Photography from Mohawk College, and has studied at Loyalist College. He has studied visual design with Freeman Patterson, Andre Gallant and Tony Sweet.
John's work has been shown in juried and non-juried shows at the Art Gallery of Burlington, Dundas Valley School of Art, McMaster Innovation Park, Joe Brant Hospital, Oakville City Hall, Oakville's Queen Elizabeth Park Community and Cultural Center, Fieldcote Park & Museum, Robert McLaughlin Gallery's Exposed exhibition among others. John has an article published in the fall 2017 issue of the Canadian Association for Photographic Art magazine. Several images have also been published in Photo News magazine. John's work was part of the Dundas Valley Canada 150 project "Double Exposure-The Valley Revisited".
John is a member of the Latow Photographers Guild at the Art Gallery of Burlington and continues to push his creative boundaries at every opportunity.

3rd Place - Athalie Taylor - “Abstract in Red, Grey and Black”
Athalie Taylor is a visual artist who lives in Launceston, Tasmania, Australia. Her work encompasses photography and digital artistry. Her initial training was in the art/textile area but more recently, she has embraced photography leading to her passion, digital art.
Athalie has had work in exhibitions in Northern Tasmania including her first solo exhibition in 2015 and in 2017 another solo exhibition this time at the Brunswick Street Gallery, Melbourne, Victoria. She was also selected for an online solo exhibition through Light, Space and Time in April 2017. Athalie’s work has been shown in the Living the Photo Artistic Life magazine and Artists Down Under – Australia and New Zealand, the magazine she founded but unfortunately had to pass over to another editor when ill health intervened. Athalie has artworks in private collections across Australia.
The camera is her tool, her paintbrush, her pen, her pencil. She is often found moving it, twisting it, turning it, bending it’s will to create the beginnings of her journey. Next comes the selection, the adding and subtracting, the refinement to reveal the essence of the design, her thoughts, and her idea.
Athalie chooses subjects, often simple in concept, looks for pattern, shape, line and texture. She experiments with and pushes her camera to its limits to create the initial stage of each piece before she takes it into various post-processing programs to explore the possibilities, develop the idea and finally hone the work.
Colour plays an important role in her work as does black and white; it all depends on the subject, the mood and emotion of the piece, the composition, and the elements that form the design and the light and shade. Many of her images are strengthened by being presented in black and white. Athalie finds the material for her work in very many places in the urban and natural environment.

4th Place - Susan Rosman - “Franklyn's Butterfly”
Susan Bein Rosman was born in Philadelphia and received her B.S. and M.A. degrees from Temple University. Her art studies have included Brentwood Art Center with Sally Lamb and workshops with Franklyn Liegel, Gerald Brommer, Virginia Cobb and Kwok Lau.
Susan's goal is to capture the delicacy of nature and the mystery of environment. She enjoys painting floral and still life subjects that offer the opportunity to use brilliant color and complex patterns. "I love the contrasts of mood and texture that I can achieve by juxtaposing the colors, patterns and layers of paint."
Her interiors are highly personal, showing rooms without people and asking the viewer to imagine what might be occurring within. She works in all media but loves oil and watercolor for their vibrancy and workability. Collages she assembles provide inspiration for her "pattern" paintings and she frequently works from her own photographs of flowers and landscapes.

5th Place - Peter Russom – “Chevron 3”
My work selected for exhibition emphasizes the formal concept of pattern through my use of color and texture. The repetition of pattern and the layering of paint enhance the richness and density of color. My work combines these elements as well as line systems, images, and passages of tone that act as a color field.
My goal in creating work is to make authentic paintings in a direct way that offers the viewer multiple levels of meaning. I work on twelve to twenty paintings at one time in order to focus on creating a body of work rather than individual paintings in isolation.
I am a Professor of Art at the State University of New York at Plattsburgh. I have been actively exhibiting my work in regional, national, and international exhibitions for more than thirty years. I received a Master of Fine Arts degree in painting from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1987 and a B.A. from SUNY Plattsburgh in 1985.

6th Place - Irene Sirko - “Thunder & Lightning”
Irene’s sculpture plays a very important part in her life. She always needed to express her artistic feelings. For many years, she had searched to find the right medium for 3-dimensional work. From the very first time she placed her hands on stone to sculpt, she was captivated. The freedom that comes with creating what she feels is enlightening and a perfect outlet for her creativity. Though Irene sculpted exclusively by hand for many years, she now includes the use of power tools. This enables her to expand how she sculpts and thereby create sculptures that are more interesting. Her art training includes Toronto School of Art, Wilfrid Laurier University, Haliburton School of Arts and private studies. She continuously experiences other media to expand her basis for creativity. Irene experiences an indescribable freedom when she sculpts. It is this freedom that provides her motivation. Focusing on the abstract also ensures that the freedom continues. When sculpting, Irene takes into account the visual impact of the stone, the planes that exist and the potential movement that can be created. She is constantly feeling the curves and lines of the sculpture. The continuous flow of the work is critical. Her style is to create sculptures that are simple, diverse and organic in nature. Overall, Irene would like others to appreciate stone as a medium, sculpture as an art form and abstract as an open-ended way of having new perspectives, whatever that may be.

7th Place – Rachel Hurst- “Joe”
Rachel is the eighth and youngest child of famed western artist Oleg Stavrowsky and her beloved mother, Carol Stavrowsky. Growing up, she was surrounded by world-class art created by her father and siblings. In this way, she was lucky to be trained in the principals of good painting design and technique through exposure.
She won her first art contest in 3rd grade but put art aside and didn’t pick it up again until her early 30s. Rachel owned a very successful decorative painting company for 14 years, making her living painting enormous ceiling and wall murals in the Italian fresco style. She recently began discovering her passion for fine art incorporating two of her favorite things: animals & patterns. She utilizes color and pattern to frame the animals in the way they make her feel when she looks at them. She is known for her pet portraits & wildlife artwork, and she donates 10% of all of her art sale profits to animal charities.
She grew up in Austin, Texas and earned a BA in Psychology from the University of Washington. No stranger to competition, she spent her childhood devoted to competitive figure skating, she holds a national 8-ball title, and she won a tournament qualifying her to play on the World Series of Poker (where she was summarily kicked to the curb... you can’t win ‘em all!). She formerly competed on the Women’s Professional Billiard Association Tour. She is an avid cruciverbalist and lives with her husband Travis and three (!) cats in Austin, Texas.

8th Place - Sibel Sancar - “Blue Lagoon”
Sibel Sancar is a computer software programmer (Industrial Engineer) and painter. She began painting in 1990, and continues her studies today in her home studio. She paints with watercolor & acrylic media and is a digital artist. She has had six solo and various group exhibitions. She has been working on digital art for more than six years.

9th Place - Ken Blakemore – "Four Seasons"
I was born in Cleveland, Ohio and studied at the Cleveland Institute of Art. As a contemporary painter, I place myself as a Modern Traditionalist. I still use some form of paint, placed on a flat plan to render all the elements into play. I have experimented with all kinds of mediums, from egg tempera, acrylic, gouache, metallics and much more. My art is diverse in styles and genre’s, from realism to minimalism. I am creating the pure plane of expression from realism to minimalism, focusing on color for my inventions.

1oth Place - Peggy Jones Pfister - “Power Grid”
Peggy Jones Pfister is a photographer and digital artist based in Houston, Texas. A native of Houston, she grew up in cities on the Texas Gulf Coast. Beginning with winning a coloring contest at age six, Peggy has always enjoyed creative outlets in her spare time throughout her life, and now full-time. She has especially enjoyed needle and fabric arts, photography, and digital art. She has taken several online photography courses and, otherwise, is largely a self-taught artist. She loves researching and problem solving, two of the most critical elements of continual learning in any endeavor.
Peggy’s photographic interests include plants, architecture, abstracts, and macros. She is especially drawn to color, line, pattern, repetition, and other graphic elements, and enjoys showcasing those elements in the captured image, as well as highlighting them via post processing enhancements.
Peggy has enjoyed success in several online photography contests including
BetterPhoto.com, Imaging-Resouce.com, MotifCollective.com, and LightSpaceTime.art. Her work has been exhibited in group shows at Hardy & Nance Studios, JoMar Visions, and the Lawndale Art Center in Houston, and at 1650 Gallery in Los Angeles.
