Eduin is an award-winning artist based in Wisconsin, USA. Eduin was selected as 1 of the top twelve finalists in the gallery’s 19th Solo Art Exhibition Series. The placement in this competition qualified his art to be showcased in this feature.

Artist Biography
Eduin Fraga was born in Havana, Cuba in 1974. He began painting over twenty years ago, blending newspaper collage into his work in order to capture dynamic fragments of society within the piece. Fraga considers his technique of painting and newspaper collage to be a unique mechanism through which to add complexity and richness to the work while simultaneously transforming the work into a form of historical register of social experience. Fraga formally studied painting and drawing at the Experimental Center of Visual Arts in Havana, Cuba, and graduated in 2010. Currently, he divides his time between Cuba and the United States.
Artist Statement
I'm continually striving to represent the complex and subtle realities of daily experience in Cuba and now in the U.S. My work focuses on social themes such as the Special Period in Cuba, struggles of workers to survive on their pensions, loss and separation in families whose members have emigrated to other countries, and tensions around public services such as transportation and sanitation.
In my work I use collage mixed with oil, acrylic, charcoal and other media. I identify this form of mixed media as “collage painting“. It is a unique form of art that includes article excerpts and images from various Cuban and American newspapers on canvas or cardboard as a means of capturing dynamic fragments of the societies in which I live. Through this approach, I intend not only to show objective images of the realities or daily lives of both countries but also to create within each painting an historical register of past events, processes, and predetermining factors that have shaped society today.
