The Overall Winning Artists Category consists of the 10 Best Entries received from the 3 media categories of the Painting & Other Category, Photography & Digital Category and the 3 Dimensional Art categories.
The winning artists will now be featured on the Light Space & Time website for the month of May 2019 and thereafter, the artworks and links to the artist’s websites will remain online in the Light Space & Time Archives.
The overall winning artists’ category of the 9th Annual "Animals" Art Exhibition will receive extensive worldwide publicity and promotion. In addition, the overall winning artists will also receive extensive worldwide publicity in the form of email marketing, 550+ press release announcements, event announcement posts and social media marketing.
Winning artists will also have their art exhibition results posted and promoted on ArtJobs/ArtWeek. Artweek/Artjobs produces 800,000 page impressions per month, 280,000 website visitors per month and has 30,000 newsletter subscribers.

1st Place - Clare Parkes - “Night-time Encounter”
I am a self-taught wildlife and pet portrait artist specialising in pastels. I discovered my love of drawing whilst on maternity leave last year and it has become a huge passion of mine. I have spent the last ten years working as a wax figure painter at Madame Tussauds in London, but my dream is to pursue drawing full time. I live in Buckinghamshire with my two year old son Oscar and having grown up surrounded by beautiful countryside I have always loved wildlife and the outdoors. I enjoy capturing the emotion and personality of each animal in my drawings.

2nd Place – Richard Higgins - “Into The Light”
Richard Higgins is a nationally and internationally known as a passionate nature and wildlife photographer. His photographs have been published in various venues, including books, magazines, and his work has been shown in numerous fine art galleries throughout Colorado, Wyoming, Montana and the Pacific Northwest of the United States. Richard has been an active photographer/artist for over 50 years. During his early years, he learned art composition by studying the work of the famous oil painter, Claude Monet. In the mid 60’s with the help of his father, he taught landscape photo workshops in Colorado to interested college students and adults. He attended college in Colorado and Montana where he received an undergrad and advanced degree in Wildlife Biology. He continued to teach landscape photo workshops in RMNP (Rocky Mountain National Park, Grand Teton National Park and Yellowstone National Park using 35mm film SLR cameras while attending college. He has stated “having a degree in Wildlife Biology has helped me have a much better understanding of animal behavior has greatly helped me with my wildlife photography”. He has photographed over the years with several Nikon 35mm film SLR cameras until 2005 when he started shooting with his first digital camera, a Nikon D2X DSLR camera. He now resides in Northwest Florida and still teaches nature photography to anyone interested in capturing that one moment in time of Mother Nature’s Splinted Beauty.
Richard has won numerous national and international photography competitions and awards with his fine art photographic work. In 2016, he was awarded Wildlife Photographer of The Year by SINWP for his photograph of a Black Skimmer showing specific behavior of this species. He is an active member of NANPA (North American Nature Photography Association) and SINWP (Society of International Nature & Wildlife Photographers) located in England. He has also started his own photography club called “Northwest Florida Nature Photography Group” which has over 300 members. The members are active in landscape, wildlife, macro and Astrophotography taught by Richard and several of his advanced amateur photographers.
Although he has studied and taught many areas of photography over the years, he has always held close to his heart wildlife and landscape photography, this has always driven my passion from the beginning and kept me looking forward to the next adventure in the near future.

3rd Place – Laurie Snow Hein - “Horse Kisses”
Laurie Snow Hein has been painting all her life. Like many young artists, she was doubtful that she could make a career of her passion. It was in her DNA...both parents, a grandmother and a brother were artistic. At age 12, Laurie started studying with Graham Ingels, a retired illustrator and portrait painter in Lantana, Florida.
In her senior year of high school, Mr. Ennis–her art teacher–encouraged Laurie to apply for art scholarships. She received a full scholarship from Columbus College of Art & Design. After a year of college and winning a scholarship for her second year, Laurie married and began combining art with being a wife and busy mother. She found time to paint portraits and enjoyed her art part-time. Then, at age 40 when her 6th child was born and her oldest was heading to college, Laurie's husband lost his job. Her talent as an artist was now needed as the source of the family's income. She began teaching classes and accepting portrait commissions.
When Laurie's paintings were noticed by a national publisher, her successful career in art publishing and licensing was launched. She says, "I was blessed to be able to support and raise my family of six children solely on my art income."

4th Place – Ami Schütz – “Sand in the Wind”
Ami Schütz is a 32 year old professional pet and wildlife artist from Germany. She discovered her love for coloured pencils and graphite pencils two years ago and couldn't live without drawing anymore. Her drawings are highly realistic and true to life. However her aim is not just photorealism but to create something more beautiful than a photo can ever be. She already won a few awards and was featured in some art magazines.

5th Place – Kathy Russell – “Momma’s Love”
I am a photographer and digital artist. I had retired from my regular job a number of years ago and decided to concentrate on my photography. Learning new ways of merging my photos with a painting style and how to create composite images. I use my photos for the base of most all of my work. My favorite subjects will always be equines, but I love following where my imagination goes.
I shoot everything from the local wildlife to most of the area horse trials. I do get bored easily and am always trying to push myself to learn and create anything I find interesting. I have been honored to have my work published in numerous magazines and books, both locally and worldwide. To have my work shown in some excellent galleries and to be invited to participate in many art shows.

6th Place – Elise Leslie-Allen - “Girl with Pearl Collar”
Although Elise is descended from a long line of artists in her family, she did not start painting until 2007. Since 2009 she has been taught by Adelaide artist Margaret Slape-Phillips. Elise has won various awards at the Royal Agricultural and Horticultural Society of SA, the Adelaide Cathedral Art Show and is an Invited Artist in the Blackwood Rotary Art Show.
In 2011 she was awarded the Special Art Prize at the Adelaide Royal Show (judged by Friends of the South Australian School of Art and Art Images Gallery) and won a solo exhibition of her animal paintings at Art Images Gallery in Norwood.
Elise currently lives with two West Highland White Terriers, a stubborn but very affectionate British Bulldog (“Bertie”) and a number of rescued and pedigreed cats, many of whom have been the subject of her oil paintings. She is inspired by their unique personalities and behaviours, and tries to capture on canvas the beauty, joy and fun that animals bring to our lives.

7th Place – Fiona Groom - “You Aint No Camel”
Fiona Groom’s artistic journey started with a variety of art courses which included Certificate II Visual Arts, Diploma of Visual Arts (Fine Arts), and concluded with a Fine Arts Degree . During this time she had the opportunity to exhibit her work in several Solo shows and a variety of national arts festivals and group shows including an International Art Exhibition at Gallera360 in Florence and an exhibition For Explorers against Extinction in London.
Her art is currently being exhibited in several local galleries, with work purchased and exhibited in private collections throughout the world, here in Australia as well as the UK, Canada, New Zealand, Europe, Singapore and the US. Some recent publications have seen Fiona’s work featured on the cover of Creative Artist Magazine Issue 11 2016 and an article in Artist Palette Magazine No 155, both publications included a 10 page spread of her work and a workshop showing the painting process. She was also featured in a coffee table book titled Amazing Australian Artists…
Professionally Fiona’s activities have included a TV episode on Put Some Colour in Your Life and also several Artist residencies during a variety of exhibitions. Fiona has also held the position of Volunteer Gallery Curator at Yandina Historic House for the past 13 years which has given her plenty of opportunity to work with other Artists, organize and present artwork and become involved in an assortment of local community events. Additionally she has organized and run several children’s art workshops, group exhibitions, art projects, painting workshops, art group tutoring and some community based Artisan Markets.
Fiona has also had the chance to be part of the Nambour Street Art Festival and has painted a mural in Nambour to help revitalize the town. It is all these artistic opportunities that have helped her gain a better understanding of art making and in doing so has given her the direction and inspiration that she needed. For Fiona the idea of capturing the subject’s character and expression, their humour, their majesty and wonder, is of utmost importance thus resulting in the painting telling its own story.

8th Place – William Haney - “Kudo Transfixed”
I have always been attracted to the anatomies of humans, animals, machine and biological habitats. When I draw, it is first highly analytical with the purpose of dissecting the underlying substrates that gives the object its structure. Simultaneously, I fall upon anatomical harmony, intriguing coat-pattern formation, and kinematical movement.
My creative challenge is to use these found individual structures in creating a meaningful choreography through new dynamic visual architectures. If I am successful in my assembly, the viewer becomes curious about the metamorphosis before them and becomes a welcomed engaged participant.

9th Place – Lou Ann Goodrich - “The Pride's Dominant Male”
Wildlife, western, and nature photography are the main body of work from which Lou Ann draws inspiration for her art. Creative images of North American wildlife, endangered species, and Western art are the primary focus of her work.
An environmentalist, she is an active proponent of healthy ecosystems and habitat conducive to maintaining diversity and sustainability for wildlife and the natural world. Her art is used to promote the importance and beauty of the natural world.

10th Place – Steph Adams - “On Guard”
Stephanie Adams sees the world a little differently and this viewpoint is celebrated through her work in multiple mediums. Her background in art infuses her work with a dynamic color sense which shines through her with the help of Photoshop, Topaz and On1 software programs as she blends her nature photography into a joyous and often fantasy-surreal look at the natural world around us.
Rarely a day goes by when you will not see Stephanie with camera in hand pursuing the abundant yet often overlooked parts of our world. While her skills are self taught, her passions are evident as she pays tribute to everything from the smallest insect to the most majestic birds of prey through her work.
Stephanie strives to photograph and create art in a way that brings the viewer into the sacred space that is our connection to the wider world and its connection to us.
